Celtics 117 - Heat 114: Isaiah Thomas sets a career-high 52 points in C's win


After a loss to the Cavaliers less than 24 hours before, it looked like the Celtics' hectic month of December had finally caught up to them and on a second night of a back-to-back and without Avery Bradley (illness) in the lineup.

Boston would put up a fight with its toughest soldier; Isaiah Thomas leading the charge in the fourth quarter.

Celtics went on to win the battle as they beat the Miami Heat 117-114 at the TD Garden on Friday night to close out their 2016 in style.

Jae Crowder on 3-pointer vs Cavs: 'It didn't feel bad at all'


Although it wasn't the outcome he expected, Jae Crowder isn't showing any remorse over taking the potential go-ahead 3-pointer towards the end of the Celtics' 124-118 loss against the Cavaliers.

After nearly erasing a 20-point deficit and grabbing a lead with eight seconds left in the game, Crowder missed a 3-pointer that could have won the game for the Celtics -- one that he says he felt confident was going to go in.

Cavaliers 124 - Celtics 118: C's come up short of colossal comeback in Cleveland


After winning six of their last seven games, the Celtics had all the momentum they needed to pull off an upset in Cleveland.

In dramatic fashion, the Celtics pulled to within one point -- nearly erasing a 20-point deficit as they were one 3-pointer away from pulling ahead of the champion Cavaliers with 8.5 seconds left but ultimately came up short in a 124-118 loss.

Isaiah Thomas, Gerald Green want Jaylen Brown in 2017 Dunk Contest


While Jaylen Brown isn't sure if he wants to participate in this year's NBA Dunk Contest, two of his teammates expressed their interest in wanting to see the rookie at All-Star weekend in New Orleans.

After hearing a conversation between veteran Gerald Green and Brown about this year's dunk contest, Isaiah Thomas petition to social media his desire to see Brown in the 2017 Dunk Contest.

The All-Star guard had an extraordinary week, leading the Celtics to a 3-1 record against teams like the Grizzlies, Pacers, Thunder and Knicks.

Celtics 119 - Knicks 114: C's hold off Knicks' Christmas comeback at MSG


After blowing a 13-point fourth-quarter lead, the Knicks nearly left a sack of coal in the Celtics' stocking before Marcus Smart hit the biggest 3-pointer of the game and Avery Bradley put the defensive clamps on New York's best scorer.

With the game tied at 112, Smart drained one from deep to give the C's a three-point lead with 47.8 seconds left.

Thunder 117 - Celtics 112: Russell Westbrook snaps C's win streak with another triple-double


The Celtics were looking to extend their streak to a season-high five wins as they hosted Oklahoma City at the TD Garden on Friday night. But it was Russell Westbrook who turned it on when it mattered most, the fourth quarter, as he scored 15 points to secure a 117-112 Thunder win.

Celtics 112 - Grizzlies 109 [OT]: Isaiah Thomas sets career-high 44 points in C's win


No Celtic other than Isaiah Thomas had at least eight points at halftime as Boston dug themselves into a 17-point hole in the third quarter.

It was Thomas who got the rally going, pouring in 36-second half points that held off the Memphis Grizzlies in a 112-109 overtime victory at the FedEx Forum on Tuesday night.

NBA downgrades Isaiah Thomas' Flagrant-2 call


The NBA has rescinded Isaiah Thomas' flagrant-2 from Sunday night's game in Miami against the Heat, according to Boston Herald's Steve Bullpett.

After elbowing Heat forward Justise Winslow with 3:02 left, Thomas was handed a flagrant-2 and was ejected from the game.

Celtics 96 - Hornets 88: Isaiah Thomas' (26 points) comeback performance leads Celtics, snaps three-game skid



Back at full strength, the Celtics put together a strong second half performance and cruised to a 96-88 win over the Hornets at TD Garden.

With All-Star guard Isaiah Thomas returning after missing four straight games, the Celtics' leading scorer reached his season scoring average while pushing his team to outscore their opponent by 18 points in the final two quarters.

Danny Ainge's Next Gamble


With the 2016-17 NBA season now over a quarter of the way complete for the Boston Celtics [13-12], the C’s now stand just one game above .500 in what has been a disappointing start to a once promising year.

Boston has battled injuries to each of its top players, including three of five starters within the first two-plus months of the season, but even without the injury issues the Celtics have looked stale and average to say the least. A team that many analysts were picking as a trendy Eastern Conference Finalist has had a fifth place start and seems to have fallen even further away from the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlantic Division's front-running Toronto Raptors.

Spurs 108 - Celtics 101: C's no match for San Antonio, lose third straight


Brad Stevens has never beaten the Spurs in his professional coaching career, he entered Wednesday night with a 0-7 record against the Spurs and left San Antonio with another loss against veteran coach Gregg Popovich.

Kawhi Leonard and Tony Parker didn't disappoint the home crowd at the AT&T Center as the Spurs beat the Celtics for an eighth straight time in Stevens' tenure, 108-101.

5-Keys for Celtics to beat Spurs without Isaiah Thomas



After back-to-back losses to the Raptors and Thunder, respectively, the Celtics schedule doesn't get any easier as the C's are in San Antonio (19-5) to take on the second-best team in the league without their best player.

Thunder 99 - Celtics 96: Russell Westbrook, Thunder steal win over C's in fourth quarter


In a game where the Celtics were ahead of their opponent through the first three quarters, the Thunder stuck around and never gave the impression that they wouldn't pull ahead in the final frame.

Russell Westbrook, who entered the game with seven consecutive triple-doubles, had his streak snapped against the Celtics but scored eight of Oklahoma City's last 10 points en route to a 99-96 Thunder win.

Raptors 101 - Celtics 94: Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan lead second half surge over C's



After an impressive first half by the Celtics, the Raptors' dynamic duo of Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan demonstrated why they're one of the best backcourt combinations the league has to offer -- leading their team to a 101-94 win at TD Garden.

With the Celtics down by four points, Lowry drained three free-throws after Al Horford committed a debatable shooting foul with 30 seconds left.

Isaiah Thomas will sit out against the Raptors on Friday


The Boston Celtics looked like a well-oiled machine as they finished with 29 team assists on 43 made field goals, shooting 51.2-percent in a 117-87 win over the Orlando Magic without Isaiah Thomas in the lineup on Wednesday night.

The All-Star point guard received a platelet-rich plasma injection earlier in the day for a groin strain he sustained in the first half of Monday night's loss to the Rockets and will miss his second straight game on Friday against the Toronto Raptors.

Celtics 117 - Magic 87: Seven Celtics score in double figures, rout Magic in Orlando


With a balanced scoring attack and a big second half, the Celtics destroyed the Magic on their own floor in a 117-87 blowout.

The Celtics' offense grabbed control of the game after halftime by outscoring their opponent 68-37 and finished the game shooting 51.2 percent from the floor.

Pistons 121 - Celtics 114: Pistons electric offense defeat C's at TD Garden


In a game where their opponent's offense put on a masterful performance, the Celtics kept things close throughout but ultimately faltered in a 121-114 loss at TD Garden.

The Celtics took a 92-84 deficit into the fourth quarter but used a 9-0 run to rally back -- grabbing their first lead of the game since the beginning of the first quarter.

Stevens Pregame vs Pistons: 'To judge Amir's [Johnson] performance by his defensive rebound percentage probably isn't fair'



For the second time this season, Celtics big man Al Horford will rejoin his teammates against the Pistons.

The last time the Celtics faced the Detroit, Horford was making his return from the concussion protocol -- which led to him missing nine straight games.

Celtics 112 - Heat 104: Six Celtics score in double figures, cruise to a win in South Beach




Behind steady defense and a strong offensive surge, the Celtics beat the Heat 112-104 in Miami on Monday night.

Despite being outscored 42-35 in the third quarter, the Celtics built a strong second-half lead and kept the Heat at bay throughout the second half by jumping ahead early and consistently attacking their opponent offensively.

Celtics 111 - Nets 92: Six Celtics score in double-digits, rout Nets in BK



In what was their best overall team performance thus far, the Celtics dominated the Nets on Wednesday en route to a 111-92 blowout in Brooklyn.

After being outscored in the third quarter for five games in a row, the C's outscored their opponent tonight 28-17 -- which certainly set the tone in the second half. Nets came within two points in the third quarter but never led once throughout the night.

Marcus Smart gives timeout speech, sparks Celtics rally against Timberwolves



Celtics guard Marcus Smart is quickly becoming one of the team's most vocal leaders, most notably sparking a 17-0 run against the Timberwolves by simply digging into his teammates and challenging them to do more in the paint.

Facing a 13-point deficit at the end of the third quarter, the third-year guard motivated his teammates by giving them an intense pump up speech before they retook the floor for the fourth.

Celtics 94 - Pistons 92: Al Horford comes up big in the final seconds



After suffering a lopsided loss by the hands of the Warriors at home, the Celtics bounced back in the motor city with help from their All-star big man Al Horford, who returned to the court after a nine-game absence.

Horford finished with a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) and hit the go-ahead game-winning putback shot with just 1.3 seconds left.

As if the the Celtics losing to the Golden State Warriors  in a blowout wasn't enough, Draymond Green had to open his mouth and voice his opinion on Celtics fans at TD Garden booing his teammate Kevin Durant on Friday night.

Isaiah Thomas rips Celtics coaching staff after losing to Warriors: 'We gave up, coaching staff as well'



Celtics All-star guard Isaiah Thomas expressed his frustration with his team and his coaching staff on Friday, following their 104-88 loss to the Warriors.

Thomas highlighted the fact that he played less than 30 minutes against Golden State, the fewest minutes he's played in a game this season.

Warriors 104 - Celtics 88: Kevin Durant & Golden State bring the C's back down to earth


The Warriors reminded the Celtics on Friday why they're one of the best offensive teams in the league en route to a 104-88 blowout win over Boston at the TD Garden.

Klay Thompson scored a game-high 28 points, while Kevin Durant flirted with a triple-double (23 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists) and silenced the boos from the Garden's faithful.

Kevin Durant reacts to criticism for not signing with Celtics: 'I have no attachment to Boston at all'


For the first time this season, Kevin Durant will face the team that tried to lure him to Boston during the offseason but came up short.

The Celtics courted Durant over the summer, enlisting one of their city's icons in Patriots quarterback Tom Brady at the Hamptons before Durant ultimately decided to sign with the Warriors two days later.

Pelicans 106 - Celtics 105: Anthony Davis' 25 points beat the C's in New Orleans


Another road loss for the Celtics and another defeat to one of the NBA's worst teams. Boston became New Orleans' second victim in 11 games.

Anthony Davis' 25 points and 16 rebounds along with clutch plays down the stretch from old friend Tim Frazier, gave the Pelicans and their home crowd a 106-105 victory over the C's on Monday night.

In a game where Celtics All-star Isaiah Thomas didn't find his offensive rhythm until the second half, Boston kept the Pacers at bay in the final minutes of a 105-99 win in Indiana.

Thomas poured in 20 of his 23 points in the second half, including eight of his team's final points at the end of the fourth quarter.

Wizards 118 - Celtics 93: Otto Porter, Wizards beat C's down in Nation's Capital



The Celtics made franchise history in Washington on Wednesday and not in a good way as the Wizards handed the C's their worst loss of the season.

The Wizards wasted no time in manhandling the Celtics when they scored 34 points in 12 minutes while holding the C's to eight points -- the second fewest points scored at the end of a first quarter in team history.
