In a chippy, playoff-type atmosphere -- one reminiscent of last year's first round series between the two clubs -- Dennis Schroder gave the Celtics a flashback on how to slow down Isaiah Thomas en route to a 114-98 Hawks victory.
Atlanta outscored their opponent, 63-51 in the second half and finished shooting nearly 50 percent (48.4) from the floor while Schroder spent the night pestering his assignment in Thomas and was nearly flawless while running Atlanta's offense.
After missing 22 of the last 23 games due to a right Achilles injury, Avery Bradley is set to return to Brad Stevens' lineup on Monday night when Boston hosts the Atlanta Hawks at the TD Garden.

It was as ugly of a win as one could imagine in the NBA on 'Rip' Hamilton night at the Palace of Auburn Hills. But the Celtics held on long enough to beat the Pistons despite blowing another double-digit lead, Boston snapped a two-game losing streak in a 104-98 victory over Detroit.

As the dust begins to settle on the Celtics not making any moves at the NBA Trade-Deadline, the only hope or saving grace is possibly acquiring a free agent via the newly waived batch of players ready to be picked up by playoff/championship contenders.
Friday, February 24, 2017
It only took 24-hours after the NBA trade-deadline to get a glimpse of what type of help Toronto's new additions could provide, especially in the fourth quarter. Despite the Celtics staying pat on Thursday afternoon, they built a 17-point lead before DeMar DeRozan and the Raptors made their comeback to a 107-97 victory at the Air Canada Centre.
The NBA Trade Deadline has come and gone while Danny Ainge and the Celtics made no moves for the second straight year on this day. Zac Peloquin of Off The Wagon Sports Radio joins us once again during our roundtable discussion of reasons behind not acquiring any pieces and staying pat past the 3 PM Thursday deadline, and how long will 'Trader Danny' retain his trade assets? Or does Ainge over-value his plethora of draft picks at this point? We'll also talk on how teams such as the Wizards, Hawks and Raptors made trades that made them better as the playoffs picture becomes a lot clearer in the next month or so. What's next for the offseason and the upcoming draft? To listen to Episode 72 of the Causeway Street Podcast, click the player below
As the 2017 NBA trade deadline came and went, I couldn’t help but revert back to the single word quote from Celtics Owner Wyc Grousbeck just a few short years ago, 'Fireworks.' Now, the context of the quote can be debated but the Celtics owner was attempting to fire up his fan base on the premise that his historic franchise was building something special and going to do it in a very public way.
Fast forward to trade deadline in 2017 and I’d say these were the types of 'fireworks' that your neighbors have when they stop at the corner store and buy sparklers for the kids. The legal kind.

While the NBA trade-deadline is just hours away, it's good to take a break from scanning rumors on social media and enjoy a legend speak his mind about their Hall-of-Fame career and what they think about the current state of the league.
Such was the case after a horrible All-Star game, NBATV capped off the weekend in New Orleans with a great interview of Kevin Garnett, his first since officially retiring back in September

Who would you prefer for the Celtics to acquire by Thursday's NBA trade-deadline; Jimmy Butler or Paul George? Most might pick one versus the other, or one might say 'neither, I wanted DeMarcus Cousins.' Since Boogie isn't walking through that door anytime soon, one has to consider what Danny Ainge is willing to give up to in a potential move for either All-Star.
As the DeMarcus Cousins dust settles in Boston, the debates now have begun on whether the Celtics brass may have dropped the ball on not pursuing a trade for arguably the best big man in the NBA.
Tuesday, February 21, 2017
Did Danny Ainge dropped the ball or was he simply not interested in making an offer for DeMarcus Cousins? We react to the Kings trading away their franchise player to New Orleans. Plus how much weight does Brad Stevens' opinion of Boogie hold when it came down to 'Trader Danny' not even pursuing a deal for arguably the top big man in the NBA? We discuss reasons behind this decision, plus what's next for the C's before Thursday's trade deadline? Who else is on Ainge's radar and is the pressure on now more than ever to acquire another superstar? Zach Peloquin of Off The Wagon Sports Radio joins us once again to break down how the Celtics brass might have failed on possibly making their team better. Enjoy Episode 71 of the Causeway Street Podcast below:
Just hours after the 2017 NBA All-Star Game, one of the biggest (and most notorious) superstars in the NBA was traded for a price that amounts to a used bicycle with no tires.
The man they call DeMarcus 'Boogie' Cousins was dealt by the Sacramento Kings after a tumultuous seven-year stint in Sacramento to the New Orleans Pelicans for rookie Buddy Hield, former King Tyreke Evans, NBA journeyman Langston Galloway, and the Pelicans first and second round picks in the 2017 draft.
Monday, February 20, 2017
New Orleans enjoyed their third NBA All-Star Weekend in the last nine-years, while Anthony Davis not only shattered the record for the most points scored in Sunday's game (52 points) and picked up Most Valuable Player honors, but now the city and the Pelicans will welcome big-man DeMarcus Cousins into the fold as well.
Sunday, February 19, 2017
While Isaiah Thomas, Brad Stevens and the rest of the Celtics coaching staff are enjoying All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, the rumor-mill is starting to pick up as the NBA trade-deadline is only days away.

In a controversial ending on the last night in the NBA before All-Star weekend, the Celtics looked like they were on their way to win their fifth straight until Jimmy Butler hit two clutch free-throws with 0.9 seconds left to lift the Bulls past Boston in a 104-103 victory.
Thursday, February 16, 2017
Kelly Olynyk is quietly becoming one of the Celtics' most reliable players players off the bench.
For the fifth straight game, Olynyk led the reserves in scoring. He finished with 16 points on 6-of-8 shots and 7 rebounds in the Celtics' 116-108 win over the 76ers.
When you hear Paul Pierce's name, it's unequivocally synonymous with the city of Boston. Without a shadow of doubt he is what represents it's people and Celtics fans for the last 19-years. None of that was more evident than on Super Bowl Sunday when 'The Truth' made his last appearance as a player at the TD Garden.

It wasn't pretty. But as they say 'a win's a win,' right?
The Celtics put together a 10-0 run in the last five minutes of Wednesday night's 116-108 victory over the 76ers and crawled away with their fourth consecutive win.
If were up to Avery Bradley, he would be playing.
But with the All-Star break looming and his team sitting comfortably in second place in the conference, Bradley and the Celtics have decided to hold off a comeback.
Last week the Celtics were reportedly seeking to possibly trade for either the Bulls' Jimmy Butler or the Pacers' Paul George. Nearly seven days later and a lot has occurred that could possibly change the landscape of the Eastern Conferance going forward, especially as the NBA trade deadline approaches on February 23rd.

The Celtics keep losing players to injuries while also finding ways to win without them. Boston, looking to finish their mini road trip on a high-note, entered the American Airlines Center winning nine of their last 10 and losers of their last six in Dallas.
It was Marcus Smart who got hot early in front of friends and family followed by Isaiah Thomas in the fourth quarter as the Celtics held on to beat the Mavericks 111-98.
Call it a roulette wheel or just Deja Vú when it comes to the Boston Celtics' disabled list, but the injury bug has struck again. The latest victim is Jaylen Brown to join the club of missing games for Brad Stevens.

Celtics 112 - Jazz 104: Against the league's elite defense, C's shoot a season's best in win at Utah
Against one of best defensive teams in the league, the Celtics cruised to a 112-104 win over the Jazz behind extraordinary scoring in what was their best shooting night of the season.
Led by Isaiah Thomas' 29 points, six Celtics scored in double figures, including Kelly Olynyk's 19 off the bench and Al Horford's 16 points to go with his 9 rebounds.

Fresh off a surprising loss to the Sacramento Kings, the Celtics looked like they were going to suffer the same fate in Portland, this time on national TV, until Isaiah Thomas woke up in the second half to lead Boston to a 120-111 victory over the Trail Blazers in a 17-point comeback on Thursday night.

Here. We. Go.
Another trade deadline approaching in the NBA, and more trade rumors have been tossed around for Celtics fans to lick their chops over. It's been over four season since Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett were traded away for a plethora of first and second round picks for the next six drafts. Not to mention all the other trades in between (Rondo, Jeff Green and Courtney Lee) that resulted in more picks.
The Celtics, winners of seven straight, rolled into Sacramento on two-days rest and with the Eastern Conference Player of the Week, only to fall to the Kings 108-92 at the Golden 1 Center on Wednesday night.
Wednesday, February 8, 2017
It's been a crazy few days in Boston as the New England Patriots became Super Bowl champs in the greatest comeback in history on Sunday to go along with Paul Pierce's last game at the TD Garden resulting in a Celtics win.
Tuesday, February 7, 2017
Isaiah Thomas followed up his incredible month of scoring by earning the Eastern Conference Player of the Week award.
After winning Eastern Conference Player of the Month honors, Thomas led the Celtics to a 4-0 record while averaging 37.8 points and 6.8 assists.

Before playing his final game in Boston, Paul Pierce answered an array of questions about his legacy, playing at TD Garden one last time and his role with the Clippers.
But when Pierce was asked about his relationship with Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo, he smiled. And talked about how he still keeps in touch with most of them.

Celtics 107 - Clippers 102: Paul Pierce knocks down a Farewell 3-Pointer in Celtics win over Clippers
It was a perfect ending for Celtics fans.
Paul Pierce knocked in the final shot, and the Celtics won the game.
Towards the end of a 107-102 Celtics win over the Clippers, fans spent the most of the second half chanting for Pierce to come back in the game. With 19.8 seconds left, Clippers head coach Doc Rivers finally reinserted Pierce -- who had been on the bench since the first quarter -- and TD Garden went nuts.
Paul Pierce is in Boston for one last go around as a player, and if he had it his way, he'd still be in Celtics green enjoying his final season in the NBA. But unfortunately as Celtics fans have learned over the years, it never quite works out the way you envisioned them to work out, especially when it comes to sports in general.

Celtics All-Star Isaiah Thomas found out on Friday that a future Hall of Famer thinks the 5-foot-9 guard has what it takes to an NBA title.
In a recent one-on-one interview with Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach, Paul Pierce commented on this season's Celtics team and called Isaiah Thomas a "champion-type of player."
After clinching the second-best record in the East, Celtics coach Brad Stevens and his coaching staff have earned the right to coach the Eastern Conference All-Star team.
The Celtics' 113-107 win over the Lakers put them 2.5 games ahead of the Wizards, while only two games separate the C's from first place.

Celtics 113 - Lakers 107: Thomas' 17 fourth quarter points leads C's to sixth straight win & an NBA record
In a showdown between two of the league's most storied franchises, the Celtics defeated the Lakers, 113-107 and set the NBA record for most cumulative regular-season wins.
Both teams entered Friday's contest at TD Garden tied at 3,252 all-time regular-season victories.
Celtics fans have been looking back and reminiscing about the one and only Paul Pierce this week. As 'The Truth' prepares to play his last game at the TD Garden on Super Bowl Sunday, how fitting, since the New England Patriots will look to win their fifth Lambardi trophy just a couple hours later, we here on Causeway Street have been paying homage to Pierce and it's only right that we take a trip down memory lane one more time.
This month, Isaiah Thomas made the decision easy for the NBA.
After putting together one of the greatest scoring months in franchise history, Thomas was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month on Thursday.
Thursday, February 2, 2017
It was no NBA secret in the early 2000's that the West was clearly the more dominant conference. Shaq and Kobe in LA, Duncan and Robinson in San Antonio, along with extremely talented teams in Portland, and Sacramento, it was clear that the NBA Champion was coming from that side of the country.

Celtics 109 - Raptors 104: Isaiah Thomas (44 points) leads comeback win over Raptors, with help from supporting cast
The unsung heroes set the stage. And then Isaiah Thomas, as he seems to do on a nightly basis, danced on it.
Trailing by 18 points in a showdown with the Raptors for the second seed in the Eastern Conference, the Celtics closed the game on a monster 52.-29 run behind 44 points from their All-Star point guard to complete a 109-104 victory.
