The Evansville Purple Aces have hired Celtics assistant and former Kentucky Wildcat Walter McCarty as their new head coach.
McCarty, who's 44 and a Evansville native, has been on Brad Stevens' coaching staff since 2013 after being an assistant to his former college coach Rick Pitino at Louisville from 2007 to 2011 and briefly with the Indiana Pacers staff.
McCarty played at Kentucky from 1993-96 and carved out a sold decade in the NBA, primarily in Boston.Introducing new MBB head coach @waltermccarty! Here is his reaction to the video! Have you seen it yet? #WelcomeHomeWalter pic.twitter.com/qLmlR7UTiF— UE Athletics (@UEAthletics) March 22, 2018
McCarty replaces Marty Simmons, who was let go earlier this month, after 11 seasons and a 184-175 record.
