Marcus Smart misses NBA's All-Defensive Teams, voted sixth among guards

The NBA released this year's All-Defensive Teams Monday and Celtics guard Marcus Smart was not named to either one.

Smart, who is coming off back-to-back seasons of being selected to the First Team, finished sixth among guards in voting with 22 total points just behind Phoenix Suns' Mikal Bridges with 39. The longest tenured Celtic missed 24 games during the 2020-21 campaign with a calf injury.

First Team honors include Rudy Gobert (Utah Jazz), Ben Simmons (Philadelphia 76ers), Draymond Green (Golden State), Jrue Holiday and Giannis Antetokounmpo (both of the Milwaukee Bucks).

While Second Team honors were Bam Adebayo, Jimmy Butler (both of the Miami Heat), Joel Embiid, Matisse Thybulle (both of the 76ers) and Kawhi Leonard (Los Angeles Clippers).

Smart's teammate; Jaylen Brown, who had season-ending surgery on his left wrist last month, also registered a first place vote for a total of two points.
