Isaiah Thomas finishes 5th in MVP voting

Isaiah Thomas finished his historic career-defining season as the league's fifth most valuable player.

Russell Westbrook took home the MVP award at this year's first annual NBA Awards. James Harden was the runner-up and Kawhi Leonard finished third.

The Celtics All-Star point guard finished just behind LeBron James, topping NBA champs Stephen Curry (6th) and Kevin Durant, who finished tenth.

Thomas put together one of the greatest seasons in Celtics history. For the league's most-storied franchise, Thomas averaged 28.9 points, one point shy of Larry Bird's record for most points per game in a single season (29.9).

He also broke Antoine Walker's record for most three-pointers made (222) by hitting 245 3's this season and scored 30-plus points in 31 games, including a 52-point performance against the Heat.
