Celtics assign Young, Mickey to D-League

Associated Press

Celtics forwards James Young and rookie Jordan Mickey have been sent to the Maine Red Claws, Celtics' D-League affiliate.

The D-League regular season doesn't start until Nov. 12, but Young and Mickey will have plenty of time to get acclimated to their new setting. With a crowded Celtics front court, the two youngest players on the team will be able to get plenty of playing time in Maine instead of sitting at the end of the Celtics bench.

Young, who was the 17th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, played in Maine last season before injuring his shoulder last winter. He returned to the Celtics for most of the second half of last season but didn't get a whole lot of playing time.

The Celtics acquired the rights to draft Young from the Brooklyn Nets in the blockbuster deal that included Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett.

Mickey was drafted in the second-round of last June's NBA Draft. He inked the biggest contract deal for a second-round pick rookie in NBA history.
