Rondo assigned to D-League

The Celtics assigned Rajon Rondo to the Maine Red Claws of the D-League for a short stint early Wednesday afternoon.

Rondo stated previously that going to Maine was a possibility but recently said that he changed his mind about making the move to the D-League.

Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge says Rondo's brief stint in Maine will be shorter than people think and that he's expected to rejoin the Celtics.
"Rajon is progressing terrifically in his rehab and this is the next step," said Ainge. "This is a brief assignment so that Rajon can participate in a work out this afternoon with the Red Claws and he will be called back up to the Celtics upon the conclusion of the workout" [ESPN]
Rumors of Rondo's return point to this Friday against the Lakers at TD Garden but haven't been confirmed nor denied by the Celtics. If all goes well in Maine, we may see Rondo in uniform Friday night.
