Kelly Olynyk undergoes surgery

Kelly Olynyk underwent a successful right shoulder surgery on Monday, the Celtics announced Tuesday.

Olynyk, who had arthroscopy surgery done on his right shoulder, aggravated his shoulder in February and battled recurring subluxations, or partial dislocations. The shoulder injury forced Olynyk to miss two playoff games against the Hawks before he decided to undergo the procedure this week.

"It wasn't an easy decision. But Kelly's shoulder was -- just a lot of movement in his shoulder, slipping in and out," Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said. "I think that everybody finally concluded that there's no guarantee it was going to get better without surgery, and through a summer of rehab, there's still a risk of it slipping in and out of place. So he chose, and we chose collectively, for him to get surgery and try to end it once and for all."

Olynyk will undergo a rehabilitation program -- one that is expected to last five months, according to Ainge. However, Ainge and the Celtics stated that there isn't a set timetable for his recovery, every player responds differently.

Olynyk will most likely miss the beginning of the 2016-17 season. He is coming off his third season with the Celtics -- where he averaged 10 points, 4.1 rebounds and shot 40.5 percent from deep.
