Celtics will retire Paul Pierce's No. 34 on Feb. 11 against Cavaliers

The Celtics will officially retire Paul Pierce's No. 34 jersey at TD Garden on Feb. 11 against the the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Boston made its announcement on Friday that the ceremony will take place in front of one of Pierce's biggest rivals -- LeBron James -- before the two Eastern Conference contenders square off on the parquet. Pierce's No. 34 will be the 22nd retired number in Celtics franchise history.

Scheduling the jersey retirement ceremony in front of James in the Cavaliers is certainly fitting for Pierce, who faced James in four playoff series from 2008-2012. As a member of the Cavaliers, Pierce defeated James in 2008 and 2010 -- leading the Celtics to the NBA Finals in both instances before James and the Heat knocked off the C's in back-to-back years (2011 & 2012).

Pierce is the first Celtic to have his number retired since Cedric Maxwell's No. 31 was retired back in 2003.
