Celtics to retire Paul Pierce's No. 34 this season

Former Celtics captain, and the team's second all-time leading scorer Paul Pierce, will have his No. 34 retired by the C's this season, according to co-owner Steve Paglicua.

In an interview on Thursday with the Boston Globe, Paglicua spoke about what Pierce has meant to the franchise and there's no better way to honor the 10-time All-Star.
“It’s going to be fantastic,” he said. “For our era, the most recent era, he embodied the Celtics’ leadership, the Celtics’ brand and was the MVP of the championship team. So it’s going to be fantastic to see that happen.”  [Boston Globe]
Though the details of which game the ceremony will take place on is still unknown and some are already starting to speculate which C's opponent would be appropriate for Pierce to celebrate his career as a Celtic.

The Celtics selected Pierce with the No. 10 overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft. He played 15 seasons in Boston, ranking No. 1 all-time on three-pointers made (1,823) and third all-time in games played (1,102). He helped bring a 17th title to Boston in 2008, while grabbing MVP honors against his favorite childhood team, the Lakers.

Pierce was traded, along with Kevin Garnett, to the Brooklyn Nets in 2013 in a deal that's still paying dividends for Boston.

'The Truth's final TD Garden appearance as a player came this past Super Bowl Sunday, when he hit a final 3-pointer for the Los Angeles Clippers in their loss to the Celtics.

Pierce signed a one-day contract last month to officially retire as a member of the Boston Celtics.

Be on the look out for when the Celtics announce the date for No. 34 to be raised to the rafters
