Chris Wilcox out for 3-4 weeks due to thumb injury

Celtics coach Doc Rivers told the Boston Globe that center Chris Wilcox could miss up a month with sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb.

Wilcox sustained the injury last Wednesday night in Chicago against the Bulls while bracing his fall after taking a charge.
"Chris [Wilcox] is out; he's out for a while," Rivers said. "The report I got was three to four weeks. He'll be out."
Rivers went on to say that he will not be bringing up first round draft pick, Fab Melo. Despite Melo's 14 blocked shots in a recent NBDL game, he says he will not be playing for the Celtics anytime soon.

Instead, Celtics signed Jarvis Varnardo from the NBDL for frontcourt help. Varnardo, 24, averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds, and a league-leading four blocks for Sioux Falls of the NBDL.

Varnado is 6'9" and was the 41st overall pick in 2010 by the Heat but never played a for them. He isn't the tallest center but is able to block shots because of his athleticism and long wing-span. He currently holds the NCAA Division 1 record for most blocked shots in a season.
