The Celtics and the current reigning NBA champion Denver Nuggets will play each other in a pair of preseason games in Abu Dhabi this October, the NBA announced Wednesday.
Two-time league MVP Nikola Jokic and the five-time All-Star Jayson Tatum are set to face off on October 4 and October 6 in what will be the third edition of the NBA Abu Dhabi Games.
The Nuggets beat the Miami Heat -- who eliminated the Celtics last year in the East Finals -- to clinch their first NBA title in the franchise's 47-year history.
Boston meanwhile, are a heavy favorite as they own the league's best record at 48-13 after getting a season-high 11-game win streak snapped Tuesday.
"We're excited to bring two of the best teams in the NBA to Abu Dhabi in the Celtics and the Nuggets," Mark Tatum, the NBA's deputy commissioner, said in a press release."There is incredible momentum around basketball in the UAE and across the Middle East, and we believe these games as well as our year-round grassroots development and fan engagement efforts will be a catalyst for the continued growth of the game in the region."
The Nuggets (42-20) will also host the Celtics Thursday night at Ball Arena, with a 10:00 pm ET tip-off on TNT.
