Phil Pressey's tenure with Celtics may be over

Associated Press

As the Celtics head towards the end of their Summer League play, they will need to decide by the end of today if they're going to keep guard Phil Pressey's contract for next season or let him go.

While the Gerald Wallace for David Lee swap still isn't official, there is a chance Pressey could be heading to Golden State along with Wallace. But if the young point guard isn't included in the deal, the Celtics can still waive him before the July 15 deadline. Pressey is on a non-guaranteed contract, if the C's don't cut ties with him before that deadline his contract for next season becomes guaranteed.

Pressey, who traveled with the Celtics to Salt Lake City for the Utah Summer League, never suited up for his team. Instead of playing Pressey, Celtics elected to stick with Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier at point guard while Pressey watched from the sideline.

When the Celtics traveled to Las Vegas, Pressey did not go with them, a sign that his days with the Celtics may be over.

Pressey served as a fill-in point guard for the Celtics for the past two seasons. The 24-year-old averaged 3 points and 3 assists.
