The Celtics got some good news this week on the potential return of big man Robert Williams as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.
According to head coach Joe Mazzulla, the veteran is expected to be back "in a week or so," with the regular season winding down.
"Still on the timeline," Mazzulla said Wednesday. "Hopefully, within the next week or so…He responded well to the workout yesterday. Today was a lighter day for him."
Williams last played on March 3 in a 115-105 loss to the Brooklyn Nets, when he suffered the injury in the third quarter and left the game. The Celtics are 3-3 since and don't expect to see their starting center back until after the team's current road trip.
While Boston has a 48-22 record, Williams has only suited up for 28 of those outings, including missing the first 29 to start the 2022-23 campaign following arthroscopic knee surgery back in September.
If this updated timeline holds, Williams could be back on the court as early as March 24 when the Celtics return to TD Garden for the first time since the beginning of the month to host the Indiana Pacers.
In the meantime, the Celtics are 2-1 so far on their six-game road trip and look to conclude on a high note, as they face the Portland Trail Blazers Friday night.
