Robert Williams to miss matchup against Knicks

The Celtics will be without Robert Williams when they host the New York Knicks Sunday night at TD Garden.

The C's big man sustained a left hamstring strain in the third quarter of the team's 115-105 loss to the Brooklyn Nets Friday night and did not return.

Following the game, to which the Celtics blew a 28-point lead, head coach Joe Mazzulla didn't have an update on Williams' injury, before being ruled out Saturday. But during tonight's pregame presser Mazzulla said Williams could be sidelined anywhere between 7-10 days. Williams will miss his 37th game of the season after being out the first 29 of the 2022-23 campaign, as he recovered from offseason surgery on his left knee.

In 24.2 minutes played per contest, Williams is averaging 8.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.2 blocks so far this season, while the Celtics are 27-9 in games he has missed.

Other than Williams, the C's will also be without Malcolm Brogdon (right ankle soreness), who sat out Friday against the Knicks. The Sixth Man of the Year candidate is averaging 14.6 points on 48.8% shooting and a league-leading 46% from 3-point range to go along with 3.7 assists per game.

The Celtics and Knicks (38-27) tip-off at 7:30 ET on ESPN and NBC Sports Boston.
