Report: Celtics plan to pursue Paul Pierce, Lopez to get Kevin Love

Associated Press

According to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski the Celtics plan to pursue free agents Paul Pierce and Robin Lopez in hopes of swaying all-star forward Kevin Love to sign with the Celtics.

Love, who has reportedly opted out of his contract with Cleveland, will test free agency this summer. And the Celtics will one of many teams interested in signing him.

Wojnarowski says that Pierce is 'in play' for the C's if the Celtics sign Love.

Pierce, who opted out of his contract with the Washington Wizards, is unsure if he wants to stay in D.C. or reunite with coach Doc Rivers in Los Angeles. But this is the first report of the off season that's implying that the Celtics are also interested.

The Celtics have enough cap space to sign Love to a large deal but will have to trade away a few players if they want to make space for Pierce and Lopez.

The Celtics have $40M on the books for next season against a $67M salary cap.
