Celtics 117, Grizzlies 112: Jaylen Brown, Luka Garza combine for 52 points in rally against Memphis

The Celtics rallied to top the shorthanded Memphis Grizzlies 117-112 Friday night at FedEx Forum to win their fourth-straight.

Jaylen Brown finished with 30 points on 10-of-23 shooting to go along with six rebounds and six assists, while Luka Garza added a season-high 22 points and seven rebounds, Payton Pritchard scored 19 points and Derrick White chipped in 14 points for the Celtics -- who improved to 47-23.

Jayson Tatum in his seventh game since returning from a torn Achilles struggled from the field on 3-of-15 for 13 points and nine rebounds, while Neemias Queta recorded a double-double of 12 points, 11 rebounds.

Tyler Burton led the Grizzlies with 23 points off the bench, while Ty Jerome had 16 points, seven assists and Oliver-Maxence Prosper netted 14 for Memphis -- who were without nine players, including Ja Morant (elbow) and Brandon Clarke (calf) and fell to 24-45 on the season.

The Grizzlies held Boston to just 40% shooting and forced 11 turnovers (and had 11 total assists) through the first three quarters to take an 88-84 advantage into the final frame.

The Celtics trailed 98-91 with 9:08 left to play, before using a 7-0 spurt to even it up, all scored by White -- who recorded 11 of his 14 in the fourth period. A go ahead dunk by Garza plus, the return of Brown and Tatum into the game with 5:41 remaining was exactly what the C's needed to put away Memphis for good, as they went on a 10-0 run to secure the win.

The visiting team hauled down 18 offensive rebounds, including five from Garza alone to outscore the Grizzlies 28-13 in second chance points.
"His ability to screen. His ability to take advantage of mismatches on the glass," Joe Mazzulla told reporters of Garza's performance. "Defensively, he kept his guy off the glass, so we were able to get other guys to come in and get rebounds. I thought he was great tonight."
The Celtics return home to host the Minnesota Timberwolves (43-28) Sunday night at TD Garden. NBC/Peacock will have the tip-off at 8:00 pm ET.

Game Notes:

Boston was 45% from the field, including 11-of-42 (26%) from deep, while the Grizzlies were 47% from the floor and 14-of-43 (33%) from 3-point range, The Celtics won the rebound battle 57-35 and outscored the home team in the paint 52-44. The C's had 19 assists on 40 baskets and 13 turnovers, while Memphis dished out 24 dimes on 42 made shots and turned the ball over nine times.
