Trail Blazers 114, Celtics 108: Jaylen Brown records 30 for ninth straight game in loss to Portland

The Celtics got their four-game win streak snapped to the Portland Trail Blazers in a 114-108 loss at the Moda Center Sunday night.

Despite Jaylen Brown notching another 30-point performance for a franchise tying nine consecutive games (tied with Larry Bird), his 37 points on 14-of-23 shooting from the field, to go along with seven rebounds and four assists were not enough to hold off the home team.

Former Blazer Anfernee Simons and rookie Hugo Gonzalez chipped in 13 points respectively off the bench and Derrick White added 12 points on a rare 5-of-16 shooting display for the Celtics, who fell to 19-12 on the season.

White, Payton Pritchard and Sam Hauser combined for just 23 points on 6-of-23 from deep after the trio went off for 73 points in the team's 140-122 victory over the Pacers Friday. Boston also committed 20 turnovers -- including four in the final 1:08 to play and seven for the game from Brown alone.
"For most of the game, I thought our offense from a process standpoint was pretty good," C's coach Joe Mazzulla said during his postgame comments. "Obviously, not at the end in our late-game execution. But you have to give credit to Portland. They played well."
Shaedeon Sharpe finished with 26 points on 10-of-20 from the field, while Deni Avdija had a double-double of 24 points, 10 assists, Toumani Camara scored 20 points and Donovan Clingan also recorded a double-double of 18 points and 18 rebounds to help the Trail Blazers improve to 13-19.

Boston had a 63-55 advantage at the break before the Blazers outscored the visitors 31-22 in the third quarter to lead by one heading into the final frame. The Celtics playing from behind the whole fourth period, tied up at a 100 apiece on a Derrick White layup with 4:47 left to play.

White hit his only second 3-pointer on 10 attempts to pull Boston within one (109-108) with 43 seconds on the game clock, but the C's failed to score the rest of the way -- as White and Pritchard each committed a turnover in the closing seconds.

It was the first time the Trail Blazers had beaten Boston at home in seven years, as the Celtics will continue their five-game road trip in Utah against the Jazz Tuesday night.

Game Notes:

Boston went 40-of-91 (44%) from the field, including going 13-of-44 from behind the arc, while the Blazers were 42-of-89 (47%) from the floor and 18-of-51 from 3-point range. Portland won the rebound battle 48-44, including 16 offensive boards. The Celtics outscored the home team in the paint 44-40, but loss in the assists category 26-19.
