Jaylen Brown downgraded to OUT against Raptors

The Celtics are heading north of the border to take on the Toronto Raptors Saturday night minus Jaylen Brown, who has been ruled out due to a non-COVID related illness.

Brown was already listed as doubtful on the team's injury report, before being officially downgraded to out hours later. The All-Star, who has scored 30 points or more in nine of his last 10 games, is fresh off another 30-point performance in the Celtics 129-116 win over the Miami Heat Friday.

This is will be Brown's second missed game of the season after sitting out earlier this month with an illness in the team's 146-101 victory over the Washington Wizards.

The Celtics' leading scorer is having a career-year with averages of 29.3 points per contest on 50% shooting from the field and 36.5% from deep, to go along with 6.3 rebounds and a career-best 5.0 assists so far -- while Jayson Tatum continues to rehab from a torn Achilles.

With Brown out, look for Joe Mazzulla to give out minutes to Sam Hauser or rookie Hugo Gonzalez as either could be in the starting lineup.

The Celtics at 16-11 are seeking to take solo possession of the third best record in the East when they face Toronto (17-11) on a second night of a back-to-back. In their only head-to-head this season, Boston blew a 23-point lead before holding on to beat the Raptors 121-113 on the road.

Tip-off from Scotiabank Arena is at 7:00 pm ET tonight.
