Report: Celtics sign Ron Harper Jr. to standard two-year NBA contract

The Celtics are reportedly signing Ron Harper Jr. to a two-year, standard NBA contract, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

Harper Jr., who has split time between the G League Maine Celtics and was on his fourth Two-Way deal, has appeared in 26 games for the Boston Celtics this season, averaging 3.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in 10.4 minutes per contest. As of late, the 25-year-old wing has had some standout performances -- including a 22-point breakout shooting display, where he went 8-of-11 off the bench in a 125-116 loss to the San Antonio Spurs last month.

Before joining the NBA roster Celtics in January, Harper Jr. averaged 25.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.2 blocks in 18 games, while shooting 37.7% from three in the G League this season with the Maine Celtics.

Harper Jr. and his new multi-year contract is expected to be a $2.7 million deal and it keeps Boston under the luxury-tax threshold for now while making the 6-foot-5 wing playoff-eligible. There is also a non-guaranteed team option for next season if the Celtics pick it up, per Keith Smith of Spotrac.

Boston is back up to 14 players under contracts after the second 10-day contract of center Charles Bassey was set to expire Saturday and now have converted, Harper Jr., Amari Williams and Max Shulga from Two-Way deals to standard contracts.

Though this is Harper Jr.'s first year under any sort of contract with the Celtics, he has been very familiar with the organization, as the guard-forward was on Boston's training camp rosters in 2024 and 2025, before previously being on the Celtics' Summer League team in 2024.

Harper Jr. has proven to be another ball-handler and scorer as far as the depth chart off the bench goes for Joe Mazzulla, as the Celtics look to make another run at the NBA Finals as championship contenders.
