Mark your calenders basketball fans, the Celtics have officially released their 2014-15 schedule. Opening night is October 29, as Kevin Garnett and the Brooklyn Nets pay a visit to the TD Garden for a 7:30 PM Tip-off.The rest of the other 29 NBA teams released their schedules today during an NBA TV special highlighting the upcoming season's nationally televised games.
We here at Causeway Street Blog are excited for the new Celtics season which begins October 29, and ends April 15. Here are some key games to keep an eye for this year:
Wednesday, October 29 vs Brooklyn - This will be KG's third return to where he called home for seven seasons. The veteran is entering his 19th year in the league and it most likely will be his last. Always a good game when division rivals like the Nets come to town, especially since it will be the home & season opener.
Friday, November 14 vs Cleveland - Bron Bron makes his return to Boston for the first time as a member of the Cavs since May of 2010, when the C's sent him packing to South Beach. James will be making his first appearance at the Garden since April of 2013 (Jason Terry remembers that evening quite well). The home crowd should be ready to greet "The King" the way only Boston knows how.
Sunday, November 30 vs San Antonio - A Sunday matinee with the defending champs. This could be Tim Duncan's last visit to Boston, depending how his future plays out. Then again Pop could have the big man rest, so who knows. Either way, early Sunday games always a blast at the Garden especially during football season.
Friday, December 5 vs L.A. Lakers - The Celtics haven't 'Beat LA' in what seems like forever, plus the Garden faithful haven't seen Kobe dressed to play in almost two seasons. As his career is winding down, we have to cherish the few moments that remain when it comes to watching in person one of the all-time greats, weather you hate #24 or not.
Sunday, December 7 vs Washington - Former Celtics captain and legend returns to the Garden in another jersey that is not the Nets. But non the less it's always good to see the 'Truth' come home.
Monday, January 19 at L.A. Clippers - Boston will kick off a six-game western swing with it's first stop being the Staples Center vs the Sterling-less Clippers and old coach Doc Rivers on MLK day no less.
Sunday March 29, vs L.A. Clippers - Another emotion filled Sunday as Doc makes his second return to the Garden as coach of the Clippers
Additional Notes:
- Boston longest road trip will begin on January 19 and last 12 days with travel days included. The west coast trip begins in Los Angeles and ends on January 28 in Minnesota.The Celtics longest homestand is no more than three straight games, which will happen four times this season
- 11 of the C's first 15 games this year are against teams that made the playoffs last season, while two of them are against the Eastern Conference favorite Cavs and one vs the Suns
- The Celtics will play 18 back-to-backs as opposed to 20 last season. March will be the busiest month with 18 total games including five back-to-backs
- Boston will play three games at the Garden during the holiday season: Black Friday vs the Bulls at 7:30, The day after Christmas vs the Nets also at 7:30 and New Year's Eve vs the Kings at 1 PM
