Jaylen Brown officially named a first time All-Star starter

Jaylen Brown has notched another accolade to his 10-year NBA career, as the now five-time All-Star will head to the mid-season classic as a starter for the first time -- the league announced Monday afternoon.

Alongside Brown, Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey, and Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham have been all voted to represent the Eastern Conference.

While Brown has been named to the All-Star team four previous times, it was always as a reserve. The five players voted as starters from each conference are selected by fans (50% of the vote), current NBA players (25%), and a media panel (25%). The seven players honored as reserves from each conference are selected by NBA head coaches.

In the last two fan vote returns, Brown had placed sixth both times in the Eastern Conference, trailing Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell despite having an MVP-type season. He's averaging 29.7 points and 4.8 assists, both career-highs, while shooting 49.1% from the field, 36.7% from three, and 79.1% from the line, also a career-best.

What makes Brown's 2025-26 campaign so impressive is that he's done it with a younger supporting cast, while Jayson Tatum (Achilles) has been sidelined and Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford and Luke Kornet all departed this past summer and the Celtics have far exceeded any expectations of this being a "bridge year," as they currently hold the East's second-best record at 26-15. Since December 1st, Boston has had the best record in the league at 15-6, while also having the second-best overall net rating at +7.3 so far this season.

It's been quite the weekend for Brown, who was honored at Wheeler High School with a retirement ceremony of his No. 0 jersey ahead of dropping 41 points in the Celtics 132-106 blowout win over his hometown Atlanta Hawks, only to top it off with a fifth All-Star selection and his first as a starter -- before facing off against fellow All-Star teammate Cade Cunningham and the East-leading Detroit Pistons (30-10) tonight.

The 2026 All-Star game will takes place on February 15th at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles and NBC/Peacock will have the broadcast.
