Jaylen Brown to sit out against Wizards with non-COVID related illness

The Celtics will be without their All-Star Jaylen Brown Thursday night when they face the Wizards in the nation's capital.

Brown, who was listed as doubtful following the team's 123-117 win over the New York Knicks, had been downgraded to out this afternoon with a non-COVID related illness.

Chalk it up as a great opportunity for the Celtics to give their leading scorer some much needed rest, especially after dropping 40-plus points in two of the last three games -- Brown will miss only his first game of the season as Boston finds themselves sixth in the Eastern Conference standings at 12-9 heading into tonight's matchup with the 3-17 Wizards on the first night of another back-to-back.
"Some days, you just feel like when the ball hits your hands -- the ball just feels different," Brown said in his postgame comments after beating the Knicks. "Today was one of those days. And, it didn't start off that way, because I had some turnovers, and I probably was playing a little bit too fast. So, I just told myself, Imma just slow it down, just a little bit. And then it was off to the races after that."
Meanwhile, the struggling Wizards are also shorthanded with Alex Sarr (right adductor strain), Corey Krispert (right thumb fracture), Tre Johnson (left hip flexor), Bilal Coulibaly (right oblique strain), and Sharife Cooper (right calf strain) are all out.

Look for Josh Minott to get increased minutes in Brown's absence after a solid 11-point, six-rebound performance off the bench against the Knicks.

The Celtics tip-off against the Wizards at 7:00 pm ET before they return to TD Garden Friday night to host the Los Angeles Lakers.
