Jazz top Celtics in Summer League debut, 100-82

The Celtics lost their Summer League opener last night to the Utah Jazz, 100-82. But Monday's night game gave us a first look at this year's draft picks, and another glance at second-year guard/forward James Young, who hopes to make an impact for the Celtics next season.

Celtics second-year guard Marcus Smart led the way for Boston by doing a little bit of everything against the Utah Jazz last night. Smart scored 26 points, had 8 assists and 3 rebounds. His tenacious defense led to 2 steals, and Marcus was playing with the same intensity we saw back in April against Cleveland in the first round of the playoffs. Diving for loose balls, hustling up the floor, and taking the ball to the hoop, Smart hasn't lost a step and will be using Summer League play as a chance to improve his game.

A year long rebuilding process has led us to here, the 2014 NBA Draft.  The Boston Celtics possess the 6th and the 17th pick in the tonight’s draft, and the speculation on possible outcomes are endless.

Danny Ainge will have a decision to make regard his top first round pick on multiple fronts. He could use the pick, the highest the Celtics have had since 2007, and draft what seems like is a sure fire NBA starter. The 2014 draft is deep, it is projected that the bust potential in the first couple picks is extremely low. Yet Danny is an outside the box thinker, as we know, and there is swirling contemplation about the acquisition of Kevin Love, Carmelo Anthony, and dare I say LeBron James.
